Type: Cabernet blends
This is a soft, fruity, easy drinking Spanish red packed with ripe red currant and crushed raspberry fruits. Casa Azul is a blend that brings together the lead grapes from two much more famous wine regions, Tempranillo from Rioja and Cabernet Sauvignon from Bordeaux. Don't get us wrong Casa Azul is not a pretender to their throne but what it does represent is outstanding value for money. Enjoy a glass on its own or try with a cheese board and a selection of cured meats. Perfect!

Type: Syrah / Shiraz blends
Argentina has built up a reputation in the UK for producing big, powerful, full-bodied reds, mainly from Malbec, but most definitely not a one trick pony. This Shiraz Cabernet Franc perfectly illustrates this - upfront you'll get a good thwack of spicy blackcurrant followed up by lovely sweet tannins on the finish. Best served chilled with some super-stinky cheese - an unlikely idea but one that works beautifully (just like this wine).

Type: Syrah / Shiraz
A stunning offering from Chile which is phenomenal value for money. You can sit back and rest easy when you taste this gem. Full of boisterous fruit with a hint of spice. This embodies all the qualities that have made Chilean wines so popular.

Type: Grenache blends
This lovely southern French blend unlocks the beautiful '09 vintage. The three keys represent the three undiscovered and uber-exciting areas which provide the fruit: Montpeyroux, Faugeres and Terrasses de Larzac. Combining very small parcels of great fruit, this wine is sleek and soft, whilst being richly fruited and seductive.
Type: Pinot Grigio
This is devilishly refreshing. There is a worry that you'll start drinking this to quench your thirst! It will blow away most Italian Pinot Grigios with ease and is a genuine hand-made product to boot. Made from 100% Pinot Grigio, it is pin-bright and full of refreshing citrus spritz.
Type: Viura blends
This is most definitely a food wine. So to bring it's personality to life from the wondrous depths of the bottle, dig a little deeper in that pocket of yours. We suggest buying some quality seafood to partner with its fresh lemon and melon fruit flavours, but equally a chunk of Havarti cheese or tasty Thai dish would encourage a little circus in your mouth.

Type: Sauvignon Blanc
The weak dollar means that Chile can produce stunning Sauvignons at low prices. Made for us by the most quality driven of Chile's large producers, this wine is utterly reliable and cracking value. You simply can't go wrong. Try this over a Sunday lunch with friends - serve this before the meal, the lively crisp fruit will get your guests appetites going. When the food arrives our Monos Locos Sauvignon Blanc is a perfect partner.

Type: Syrah / Shiraz
When you get over a particular marker of quality with Aussie reds, having a few years bottle age does wonders to your experience. You'll find that everything has been taken down a notch or two and all now sits together in perfect harmony. There is still plenty of traditional sweet Aussie fruit here but the age has imbued this wine with a silky softness. Stunning with a grilled rib-eye steak, or as Matthew Jukes suggests - some tasty lamb chops.

Pretoria, South Africa, August 1956. 20,000 women march to the Union Buildings and deposit huge bundles of signed petitions at the Prime Minister's door, demanding equal rights for women. They succeeded grandly. August 9th is now a national holiday in celebration of those brave women. The Fifty Six is our own celebration of this historic moment; bringing together many parts to create an impressive whole. This wine reflects the colour and dynamism now found in the region, thanks to the women of '56.

Type: Grenache blends
This wine comes from the Carlos Serres stables, much loved by Virgin Wines customers already, and containing all of the lush and fleshy fruit lent to it by the vintage. Rioja like this fulfils a very different role to the grandiose and elegant old Gran Reservas...but that's not to say that it isn't equally grand. It is but a young version of the latter grand-daddy wine, though still dynamic enough to impress your socks off.

Type: Carmenere blends
This fantastically well-structured red is a veritable feast of black cherry and blueberry fruit, with more serious hints of cocoa, smoke and vanilla. Cesar and his team are always looking over their shoulders towards the classic icon wines of Europe, and are well on their way to creating the icons of the future.

With hundreds of your ratings, and with this the 4th vintage incarnation we've blended for you, this wine comes with the very best rubber stamps: y'all love it! This season's wine, the 2010, is an absolute belter too: very rich, but super-zesty too. It's a pleasure to bring this wine back every year! Try with oysters, if you're feeling revved-up. Type: Merlot blends
For us wine is something to enjoy now - not something to have sat around gathering dust or locked away in storage. If you want to drink an old bottle then there are plenty of places to get one from! This 2009 is approachable right now and winemaker, Jean Medeville, describes it as so: 'Chateau du Juge is a wine adorned with a pretty garnet-red dress. The nose splits open with red fruits and subtle oak notes. On the palate there's a wholeness or completeness about it. A wine in harmony, perfectly balanced'.
Type: Syrah / Shiraz
There's a thoroughly gregarious, yet gently cultured wine waiting to get out of this bottle. With its spicy red fruits, with hints of liquorice and vanilla it reads like an Old World throwback, nurtured in oak, but the glass will reveal closer ties to its origin. If you find the more brawny styles of some infamous Aussie reds, like Barossa Shiraz, a little too much to handle, then this is perfect. It will appeal to dyed-in-the-wool New World sceptics as well as traditional Aussie-philes.

If you find the more brawny styles of some infamous Aussie reds, like Barossa Shiraz, a little too much to handle, then this is perfect. It will appeal to dyed-in-the-wool New World sceptics as well as traditional Aussie-philes.
Type: Carmenere
De Martino 347 Carmenere takes its name from the number of vineyard sites that were rigorously tested over 11 years, in an unprecedented viticultural program that was used to determine the sweet spot for each varietal. Only three were selected for making Chile's best Carmenere; Maipo, Cachapoal and Maule; each of which has exactly the right soil and exposure to the crystalline air and dazzling sunshine. The result - a feral but taut rendition of their goal.

New Zealand Sauv Blanc has a very distinctive flavour profile and it can be difficult to see beyond the masses of gooseberry and rapier like acidity. When pulling together the components to blend Freehand we asked winemaker Ant Moore how we could reign in those common characters and arrive at something, that was still most definitely NZ Sauv, but had something of the Loire about it and the wines produced in Sancerre. The result was exactly what we were looking for - this wine has a lovely flavour profile.

When rubber-stamping the new vintage of one of your all-time favourite whites, Seraph Sauvignon, Francois Chainier, the winemaker, happened to mention an exciting stash of top-drawer boutique Sauvignon he'd been holding back for someone else. But, as I got there first we got the wine! Made using the best grapes from the Chainier family estate this is a straight up, classy swipe at fine Pouilly Fume. Fine and minerally with intense fruit.

The great thing about Oz is that you can be pioneering without breaking any laws and avoid making a wine so whacky that it has a receptive audience of 1 (the guy who made it). Aussies live for new styles and experimentation, but rarely put a foot wrong in the process. So here we can enjoy that exciting experimental spirit and an eminently drinkable wine in the same bottle! Both grapes produce sparkling, effervescing wine in the glass, as they were treated with kid gloves in the winery.

Prior to taking up winemaking, eccentric Californian Michael Borboa forged a career in a little-known competitive sport: high-diving into shallow pools of water. Fortunately, after hanging up his swimming shorts, Michael has channelled his competitive spirit into a safer pursuit - wine. The result is no less breathtaking than seeing a man dive 20ft through the air into a paddling pool!
