This is single vineyard stock, from the El Valle block, a small plot that Gorka, the winemaker, had singled out for us right away. We requested a cracker of a wine, perfect for Summer supping, and Gorka has come up trumps producing a juicy, fresh wine packed with dark fruits but a shining purity.

It reads Rioja Crianza on the label, but this doesn't begin to tell us the precision afforded on this wine. Only fruit from antediluvian vineyards was used, hand-picked almost to the berry. Not to be confused with big, branded Rioja found on supermarket shelves as there's so much more here.

It's already so good, but do you think the Finca Manzanos range could get any better? The answer from us is a sure fire yes. Part with just a little more cash to be handsomely rewarded. This is a perfectly rounded Rioja with a concentrated raisin-like fruit focus, layers of sweet almonds and intense spiciness.

In the UK it's fair to say that we are lovers of Spanish Gran Reserva, but often left a little disappointed. You have our word that this will not be the case here. This is a multi-layered cuvee - a wonderful expression of great fruit, the land that provides it, and the immaculate effect of top-quality oak barrels.

So impressed have we been with the wines from the guys at Finca Manzanos that we've decided to bring you their full range! Their Crianza may abide by local governing laws but has a really great modern feel to it. Juicy on the palate with concentrated wild, red fruits, floral nuances with vanilla and cinnamon spice too.
