Wines We Love – Shiraz Plays Shiraz

Hi my name is Jon Shannon and I’m Head of New Business here at Virgin Wines. I’m responsible for all of the new customer acquisition into our business, which means my team and I spend a lot of our time developing new and exciting partnership opportunities with a wide range of organisations across many different market sectors. It’s a great role as we have a fantastic proposition to talk about – let’s face it who doesn’t enjoy a nice glass of wine!

Since working for Virgin Wines my overall knowledge has broadened significantly and it’s great fun exploring new wines to add to an ever growing list of favourites. As a big fan of huge reds there is one particular Australian Shiraz that I have recently fallen in love with and that’s Shiraz Plays Shiraz from the famous Barossa Valley wine region.

If you are wondering straight away about the unusual name, it’s actually taken from Frank Zappa’s sons homage to his Dad’s music – that’s coolness straight off the bat! This particular red goes down a real treat with red meat from a la carte dining to simply tossing a steak on the BBQ. Whilst it is a big red it certainly doesn’t hit you as such when you first taste it, in fact it has a very smooth silky texture which for me makes for a very easy drinking red wine albeit with a full on flavour with everything from sweet berry fruit, blackberry and cassis through to herbs and smoked meat. It even has a stylish minimalistic label which oozes exclusivity and looks great in the wine rack.

Priced at just £9.99 this represents excellent value as it’s a bottle certainly worthy of a much higher price tag. Rated at 4.5 out of 5 Stars on our site it would seem plenty of our customers enjoy this wine as much as I do, but if you haven’t tried it I would thoroughly recommend giving it a go as you won’t be disappointed!
