Latest Wine Reviews

It’s been a month or two since we updated you with our latest wine reviews and, during this time, we’re pleased to report that some more of our wines have featured in the press. Here’s a brief summary of what the journalists had to say.

In the August edition of BBC Good Food Magazine, Sarah Jane Evans reviewed our Losen Bockstanz Riesling Slate Spatlese Wittlicher Portnersberg 2009 describing the wine as “Lovely with light summer foods, it’s creamy, zesty and medium dry”.


Jane Clare of the Liverpool Daily Post raved about a number of our wines throughout June.  She described our Les Arbousiers Coteaux du Languedoc Cinsault Grenache Rose 2010 as “Light in colour as pink can be, with the blend of cinsault and grenache creating a mouth-popping strawberry flavour”.

In Jane’s column about English wines, she described how she “died and went to heaven with Ridgeview Cuvee Merret Bloomsbury Brut 2009” which “had a nose of oven-fresh bread, and to taste was rich brioche dipped in tropical fruit”. Although we have sold out of this vintage, the Ridgeview Cuvee Merret Bloomsbury Brut 2010 is now available and is tasting just as good!

Jane’s recommendations for Father’s Day included customer favourite Chateau du Seuil Graves Rouge 2005 which she suggested would go down well with Dads who like “strong and earthy reds”, and our tasty Can Rafols dels Caus Gran Caus 2003 which she said was “gorgeously smooth” and which she advised to “Leave it for at least two hours and the tawny rimmed wine will come alive with cherries”.

Elsewhere, in the August edition of Decanter, our Orballo Albarino 2011 was considered “outstanding”, being awarded 18.5 points out of 20 in the Rias Baixas Albarino panel tasting.   It was described by the tasters as “Very refreshing and intense palate, full of citrus notes”, “Very food friendly; very Albarino”, “Subtle, mysterious and delicious” and “Smoky, grassy, intense with notes of stewed gooseberries – the slightest spritz adds to the first impression”.  In the same feature, our Finca de Arantei 2011 and Pazo Senorans 2011 were both “highly recommended” being awarded 17-18.25 points out of 20.
