Have Your Say: Chasing That Flame

Whether your flame burns for sweet treats, fine wine, football or brilliantly arranged guitar riffs – it’s always important to keep it fuelled. After last week’s steamy debate on ‘How to Fake It for a Hot Date’, we thought we would spend this week letting you inform us of how you chase your flame, so to speak, when hosting a successfully spicy evening.

The idea of planning your wine for that perfect hot date was a hot topic indeed over the past week – picked up by Greg Rose on Virgin’s Lifestyle News and also a featured article on Monday’s edition of The Virgin Weekly. Clearly we are all in search of a little guidance when it comes to finding the right wine for a special evening. So now it’s time to talk about it…

What exactly do we mean by a ‘hot date’? Well, a ‘spicy date’ to one person will mean a completely different thing from one person to another, just as an Aussie Shiraz will deeply impress one drinker whilst knocking another’s palate sideways. So whatever a hot date means to you, keeping those thoughts tidy of course, we want to hear how you would pull it off…(tidy!)

Our Wine Buyer suggests opting for a classy bottle of fizz, such as the pretty pink Ridgeview Fitzrovia Rose, which is totally gent-friendly and won’t knock your machismo down any points because it tastes so darn good. He also recommends staying well clear of any dangerously intriguing options like ‘Blue Nun’, despite Alan Partridge’s enthusiasm for it, and definitely steer clear of any mass-produced penny saving plonk.

Which wines do you personally think are best suited to an evening set to impress? Does it depend on the personality of your guest? Have you had any disastrous failures or near misses (flying corks perhaps) that have taught you life lessons about wine and food pairing? Do you know exactly how to stroll into a room, all swanker–like (yes, it’s a real word) and work your magic right throughout the evening without dropping any suave points? Well if this is you, there’s even more reason to share your wisdom with lesser talented folk.

Let us know how you chase the dating flame that drives on towards that second date…
