As anyone familiar with the works of Edgar Alan Poe will tell you, Amontillado is no ordinary Sherry. With a dry to medium tangy, nutty concentrated flavour and pale golden colour, it's a highly versatile Sherry that many Spanish people will drink instead of wine with a meal. This is definitely one of the best Amontillados we've tasted and is delicious with salted almonds and olives when served as an aperitif.
Now you may think we're mad, but this delicious Spanish Sherry actually goes rather well with oriental food. No, really! Its slightly sweet taste and fleshy character is the perfect match for chillis and all things spicy - not to mention funky cheeses. So if you're looking for an unusual drink to have with your noodles or sweet and sour prawn, and aren't much of a saki fan, try this instead! Of course, if you're a Sherry fan, you'll love it anyway, it's more crisp, fresh and dry than creamy.
Dash for the cheese board, clear a space in the study and get out your best crystal, because this is a fantastic creamy Sherry that's got a great fruity, refreshing character to hanker after. Slightly drier than most cream Sherries, it's one to keep to yourself and sip slowly in the evenings rather than plopping in the hands of auntie Gladys on Christmas morning.
Another sensational Port from one of the most famous Vintage Port houses, Croft. A blend of traditional Port grapes, picked when the grapes were fully ripe, gives this a deep ruby finish. A luscious body promotes deep, black berry flavours and hints of chocolate. This is a powerful red that winemaker David Guimaraens has done an exceptional job of producing. You will not be disappointed.
This vintage port is glorious. The decision to bottle a Quinta de Panascal vintage is taken when the wine is
judged to be of exceptional quality. This proves that this intense, robust red meets some of the highest standards set in wine making. Just try it for yourself and you will certainly see why. As an extra extravagance, try paired with chocolate.
Not the world's best selling port for nothing this. The Americans go wild about it for a start, and whilst in most things that's an aberration, in the case of port it's a pretty clear indication that this is hot stuff. Lots of sweet, rich, powerful ripe plum and damson fruit flavours with a sweet milk chocolate kick to it and an almost raisiny quality. Absolutely delicious with a smelly bit of stilton.
