Situated right on the banks of the Garonne this vineyard is dominated by one of the most elegant Chateaus in the Graves region, and is owned by a Welsh Couple, Bob and Sue Watts. Where they have ensured organic production, and the wines are exceptional quality for the price. The Chateau du Seuil Cerons is a luscious dessert wine whose apricot sweetness is balanced well by racy crisp lemon acidity.
Every blue moon or so a priceless cache of Show Reserve wines is released from the grand old Yalumba cellar to give the world a fleeting glimpse of dessert wine heaven. This classic Aussie style - super-ripe muscat fortified and oak-aged for many years - is luscious, tawny-coloured essence of liquefied raisins lashed with chocolate, caramel, spices, nuts and brandy. A delicious dessert wine. And lovely with a decent chunk of Stilton too.
Aside from the beautiful name, an irresistible wine. Made from the Moscato grapes (the deliciously sweet Italian table grape) which are hand picked and semi-dried to concentrate the wine. With a deliciously sharp edge that stops it from being cloying.
A lovely, juicy, frothy red Italian fizz with scents of crushed rose petals, raspberries, strawberries and redcurrants. Like Lambrusco - but good! At a forgiving 5.5% alcohol you'll be able to crack right on without becoming florrid and starting to sing. The only danger is you'll be into the next bottle before you know it. Slightly chilled, a great aperitif and delicious with light, fruity desserts or vanilla ice cream. Store cooled though, heated these babies pop!
You don't want your Riesling dessert wines 'over-the-top' sweet. You want them beautifully balanced like this. Fragrant, luscious, honeyed and spicy, cut through with a crisp, lime juicy zing. Perfect with crumbly blue cheeses, souffles, foie gras or fruity cheesecakes. Made by raisiny-rich grapes by 'winemaker to watch' Stephanie Toole.
Tardy? In laid back Alsace this is viewed as something of a plus point. The Vosges mountains which make the area so striking also ensure that all the clouds dump their rain before getting near the region - result - despite being up north it's one of the driest areas in France. Canny producers take advantage of the long warm autumns to leave the grapes to get super-ripe before harvesting. The riper they are, the more sugar they have giving a luscious bottle of liquid honey with peach and pear notes.
There is a delightful golden colour to this sweetie packed full of dried apricot and citrus notes. The palate is elegant, has great balance and serious length. Serve as an apéritif to warm up those taste buds or partner with a crème brûlée or fruit tart.
