We found Herve and his Fabre wines last year in Mendoza and bought his entire stock of Malbec. Clearly you lot love his wines as much as we do because you promptly bought them all. So we thought you'd appreciate trying the equally delicious Merlot. Wild berries, vanilla and coffee with a gorgeous velvety allure, this is massively classy gear and it seems we are just about the only ones on to it - yet.

At the foothills of the Andes on the banks of the Mendoza sit the well-established vineyards of Bodega Benegas. A fusion of brilliant winemakers and wonderful grapes mean there is some seriously good wine being produced here. The Juan Benegas is an intense full-blooded Malbec with masses of red fruits and smooth tannins. Get some beef in the oven and try it with this. Seriously good stuff.

Familia Zuccardi push back the boundaries of wine making with their rabid curiosity and passion for bringing the new and unusual into the foreground. They make wines out of exotic grapes just to see if they can. And how they can! Caladoc is the hybrid lovechild of svelte southern French Grenache and the punchy fruit-driven local hero, Malbec. It left our wine buyer's senses reeling a bit as it just laid the boot in with a rich explosion of fruit flavour, not heavy but really intense and just lovely.

It's a family love-affair with this grape at Catena, the producers of this. It's probably the best Chardonnay in Argentina today. It's got the lot: freshness delivered by fruit picked from the slopes of the towering volcano Tupungato, mingling with riper, more tropical flavours from the valley floor at Tunuyán and Agrelo. Nicolás and daughter, Laura Catena have spent many vintages in pursuit of a very natural wine and they haven't missed a beat with this one.

This is another winning masterpiece from the innovative but slightly mad winemakers at Famila Zuccardi. They take unusual grape varieties and test out the best ways to get the most they can from them. Viognier can be a difficult grape to grow well but it seems to suit Argentinean soil. Full of apricot and peach flavours but still refreshing and crisp, this is a lovely wine for sitting and sipping. It also matches slightly spicy dishes, such as Thai or Chinese food, or would go very well with fish.

This wine has the amazing distinction of being an Argentinean wine, made by a defected Frenchman, that is sold back to the French...in Bordeaux, a very, very rare feat indeed as the French import nothing...ever. So it must be good. Made by Bordeaux-born Herve Fabre from very old vine malbec, some over 100 yrs, so that the concentration is perfect. It has intense focused cherry fruit with spices, underpinned with vanilla and chocolate flavours.

If you like your pinks with enough personality to make them stand out from the norm, as well as being delicious, try this cherry-filled wine from the slightly mad makers, Familia Zuccardi. It's a light, appealing wine with dry raspberry flavours and lovely fruitiness. Give it a go with cold meats or seafood salad or if you are feeling plush, dressed lobster and Cesar salad.

When Malbec grapes from old Bordeaux vines are fed by snowmelt from the Andes and ripened by 320 days of sun they become flavoursome and lush. The top French maker Herve Joyaux devotes his life to getting the most out of each grape, and this fruit crammed intense Malbec rivals the best of Bordeaux. We haggled and he's let us have this as long as we tell you how good Argentinean wines are. Especially his. Bordeaux grapes, French makers, Argentinean climate, soil, attitude and price. Bring on the steak.

The family behind these new wines are a little crazy. But in a good way. Like a bunch of mad professors, they're pushing the boundaries of winemaking. Rediscovering long forgotten grapes in an effort to find the most funky new blends and styles. Unlike anything you've tasted before, your tastebuds will certainly thank you after a glass or two of this. With a wild dark edge from the Malbec and some juicy soft fruit from the Bonarda this is a brilliant wine.
