This commission is a glorious melange. We asked 11-times SA Champion winemaker, Nico Vermeulen, to come up with a rich, elegant take on the best whites from the Southern Rhône. His intuition led him to create a wine that was both fresh and vibrant (cool climate) and richly fruited (warm climate). Luckily, he knew exactly the right growers from the boutique hot-spots of Elim (cool) and Elgin (warm and sunny). Only this rare combination allowed him to sort out the balance he needed.
Elim is close to Cape Agulhas, the most southerly place on the entire continent, where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans meet. Elgin, by contrast, is 400 metres above sea level, with prolonged exposure to sunshine. The richness-in-the-mouth-feel comes from the Elgin fruit, whilst the backbone is from Elim.
Type: Sauvignon Blanc
As a follow on from the popular Viognier, we've finally found a suitable vineyard to bring home a top-drawer SB. A dry, aromatic white that carries delicious citrus fruit. Great with chicken or mildly spicy Asian dishes.
Type: Sauvignon blends
Viura, the main grape variety used in the making of white Rioja, lends a delicate sophistication to the wine. Blended here with the citrusy, punchy flavours of Sauvignon Blanc makes a brilliant tender white exuding apples and honeysuckle.
Type: Sauvignon blends
This bright and vibrant Sauvignon blend is something of a masterpiece. It has a super nose which makes it ever so moreish, you just won't want to stop after one glass.
