We are very excited about this new wine from the legendary Capcanes winery, because we made it with them. 18 months ago they agreed to go organic and began converting 20 acres...for us! This process takes 3 years so while they aren't 'organic' yet, they are half way, so no nasties on the vineyards for the last 18 months. And no premium organic prices either!

The soils and the height of our vineyards give us a distinct advantage over our neighbours. We were always quite distinct and this new DO has helped to promote that. We also have great older vineyards here -- one example is a vineyard of 105 year old Garnacha vines.
We're probably unique amongst Spanish wineries in that we owe our success to the need for Kosher wines! Although we were founded in 1933 it wasn't until 1995 when Barcelona's Jewish community came to us for wine that things really took off. Under Jewish law, wines had to be produced under the 'Lo Mevushal' method and it was by creating wines in these tiny parcels that made us realise that our wines could be as good as the already famous Priorat wines.

We feel that this wine really does show the elegance that many Rioja producers can only aspire to. It is subtle and has a very true heart. Where Rioja is the key to fame and fortune (for the producer), Carinena is the key to glorious flavour (for you).

This is a lighter take on the classic Cotes du Rhone. Cosy, warming but with a balance that you just don't find in most Shiraz. Pair it with a red meats or a hearty casserole!
