Oroura Station Single Vineyard Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2011

Oroura Station Single Vineyard Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2011

  • We discovered this Kiwi Sauvignon Blanc at a tasting - we were so impressed that we had to share it with everyone.
  • We did a 'Remington' on it and bought the lot, having seen its quality and provenance.
  • An ideal wine to serve as an aperitif or partner with spicy Thai noodles.

There is no stopping the quality from the great vineyards of Marlborough, earning its top spot in our favour among the world's whites. This wine is a single vineyard product, crafted by ex-head winemaker at, arguably, New Zealand's top winery. So it's made by a master to the highest possible spec, from an absolutely cracking vineyard and winemaking region. What's not to like! There's a lovely citrus drive and purpose with deft floral touches, delicious gooseberry flavours and hints of minerals.

Andrew Baker talks about Oroura Station Single Vineyard Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.

"This wine is made by Eveline Fraser, the ex-head winemaker at, arguably, New Zealand's top winery, Cloudy Bay. She has subsequently left and has taken all of that super-premuim knowledge with her."

Winemaker: Eveline Fraser

Winery: Oroura Station

Country: New Zealand

Marlborough is one region that requires little introduction. So distinctive is the richly aromatic and thirst-quenching style that was created here twenty years ago that it has eclipsed its French peers (Sancerre et al) in terms of popularity. This region (and wine) is cool, cool, cool.

This wine is made by one Eveline Fraser, who you may never have heard of. But you will have heard of the winery where she used to make the wine. Because it's called Cloudy Bay - the great, iconic Marlborough winery that still sets the standard for the region. She has subsequently left and has taken all of that super-premium skill set and knowledge with her.
